Wired or Wireless Roller Shutter Motor? Which Should I Choose?
What is the difference?
The main difference between a wired and a wireless tubular motor is not how the motor itself operates, but how it receives commands.
Wired motor
Wired motors are operated through a wall switch that is connected directly to the motor via electrical wiring.
They are a reliable and cost-effective option, particularly for new installations where the required wiring can be planned from the outset.
Remote control usually requires the addition of an external wireless receiver.
Wireless motor
Wireless motors feature a built-in receiver and can be controlled using a remote control.
Many models also support integration with Smart Home systems or smartphone applications through compatible technologies such as Wi-Fi or a gateway, depending on the manufacturer.
Can a wired motor be connected to Wi-Fi?
A wired motor cannot connect directly to Wi-Fi. If wireless control is required, this can be achieved by adding a suitable external wireless receiver or by installing a wireless tubular motor.
Can I use both a wall switch and a remote control?
Yes, provided that the system is designed correctly. With wired tubular motors, the most common solution is to add an external wireless receiver. This allows the same roller shutter to be operated both from a local wall switch and by remote control.
A key requirement is the availability of a permanent power supply for the receiver.
If you are building a new home or carrying out a renovation, it is advisable to provide a permanent power supply at each roller shutter location. This makes it possible to add remote control or automation features in the future without the need for additional building work.
