Converting a Manual Roller Shutter to Electric with a Motor

Can I convert a manual roller shutter to electric?
In most cases, yes. A manual roller shutter can be converted to electric operation without replacing the entire system.
Manual roller shutters typically use a Φ40 octagonal shaft, which can accommodate tubular motors of the corresponding diameter.
In some cases, however, the technician may determine that it is preferable to replace the existing shaft with a Φ60 octagonal shaft in order to install a more powerful or more suitable motor.
Even then, the replacement usually involves only the shaft and not the entire roller shutter.

What does the conversion involve?
The process involves removing the manual operating mechanism and installing the tubular motor inside the shaft.
At the same time, the condition of the guide rails, shutter curtain and other mechanical components is checked to ensure that the new motor operates without unnecessary strain. If the existing roller shutter is in good mechanical condition, in most cases neither the shutter curtain nor the guide rails need to be replaced.

As a result, converting a manual roller shutter to electric operation is significantly more cost-effective than replacing the entire shutter.
After installation, the roller shutter can be operated using a wall switch, remote control or – if a suitable wireless motor is selected – even through a smartphone app or Smart Home system.
